Sometimes the signal is not “I feel sad.” It is “I don't feel like myself.”
Changes in sleep, motivation, concentration, appetite, relationships, energy, or interest can all be meaningful. Men may also respond to low mood by becoming busier, more isolated, more irritable, or more focused on escape.
Counseling may focus on
- Understanding changes in mood and motivation
- Identifying isolation and avoidance cycles
- Rebuilding routines, connection, and meaningful activity
- Examining self-criticism, shame, and hopeless thinking
- Clarifying values and sources of purpose
- Recognizing when additional medical or psychiatric evaluation may be useful
Online counseling is not a substitute for emergency care. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing a mental health emergency, use appropriate emergency services where you are located.
